Metro Closures

Blue, Orange & Silver Lines: Major rail impacts Saturday, August 11-Sunday, August 26 for a major capital project.

Beginning at 7:00 a.m. this Saturday, August 11 and continuing through closing, Sunday, August 26:

  • Due to single tracking between McPherson Sq and Smithsonian, Orange and Silver line trains will operate every 20 minutes at all times of the day resulting in extensive delays and crowding.
  • Blue Line trains will operate between Franconia-Springfield and Arlington Cemetery only; additional Yellow Line trains will provide service during rush hour between Franconia-Springfield and Greenbelt. Customers traveling between Virginia and Downtown DC should use the Yellow Line instead.
  • On the weekends of August 11-12 and 25-26, Farragut West, McPherson Square, and the lower level platform at Metro Center (Orange, Silver & Blue lines) will be closed. Free shuttle bus service will be provided.

All Orange, Blue and Silver line customers are encouraged to use alternate transportation and to only use Metro if you have no other option. A full list of travel alternatives, a weekday service map, and additional information is posted at wmata.com/rebuild. Note that Rush Hour Promise will not be in effect for trips on the Orange, Blue or Silver lines during this project.
